Fields-CQAM Public Lectures: Chris Budd
Description
In Gresham College's new series, "Mathematics and the Making of the Modern World", Chris Budd explores how mathematics gives us a glimpse into the future both of technology and many other areas of our lives. On October 30th and Nov 1st, he will be delivering two lectures in this new series - "How Maths Can Save Your Life", and "Climate Change: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
In "How Maths Can Save Your Life", Chris will explore how math done in 1915 behind modern medical imaging is now saving countless numbers of lives, and its applications in divese fields such as remote sensing, crime detection, adn stuyding bee populations. In "Climate Change: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", he will describe the mathematics underlying climactic modelling, the reliability of climate change models, and how math can give us insights into both the past and the future.
