Engaging Parents in Mathematics
This session will look at ways schools can engage parents in elementary mathematics to help their child at home. Connecting parents’ questions about math they learned when they were young to math that is taught in their child’s class, helps them understand the purpose of the curriculum.Caroline Rosenbloom was a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching. She was an ElementaryCoordinator in the J/I Midtown Technology Option, Math Instructor and Technology Infusion Lead atOISE/UT. She has enjoyed working with students, teachers and parents as a middle school teacher, Math Instructional Leader in the TDSB and Education Officer at EQAO. Caroline is co-author of Investigating Mathematics Using Polydron and was the first columnist for the Ontario Mathematics Gazette's, “In the Middle”. She also developed numeracy podcasts for the Ministry to help parents engage in mathematics at home. She continues to explore mathematics and technology throughout her adventures as an Elementary Principal in TDSB.
