Ada Lovelace Birthday Bash
Description
The event combines a celebration of the last day of fall term at Carleton University with a celebration of women mathematicians, statisticians, and programmers, throughout history. Highlighting the work of Ada Lovelace, pioneering programmer, and run around her birthday on December 10, this event showcases the progress of mathematics, statistics, and computer science from her work to today's discoveries.
Uniquely, this event combines talks with outreach: from the second hour onwards, the attendees are invited to play games, solve math problems, and compete for prizes: but in the first hour, invited student speakers present an aspect of higher-level mathematics or statistics that makes each activity possible. Featured games include programming bingo, tabletop escape room centered around Ada Lovelace's life, and stochastic slots, where game theory and artificial intelligence is on display.
